TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the fifth consecutive month, to 670,400. This was the highest figure recorded since May 2005.
  • The trend estimate for beef production rose for the sixth consecutive month, to 181,300 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded in the collection which commenced in July 1979.
  • The trend estimate for pigs slaughterings fell for the fifth consecutive month, to 436,800. This was the lowest figure recorded since August 2001.
  • The trend estimate for pig meat production fell for the fifth consecutive month, to 31,700 tonnes. This was the lowest figure recorded since July 2001.

This publication presents statistics on livestock slaughterings and meat production. These statistics are based on a monthly collection from abattoirs and other major slaughtering establishments.
